A sloppy affair

Southern Football League – round 3

SPRINGVALE Districts failed to fire against the Bombers, with Skye snaring a six-point win in their SFL Division 2 clash.
A deluge of heavenly detritus soaked Springvale Reserve and left the match as a scrappy affair with the Districts kicking the only goal of the first quarter.
From there the match stalled in the slop as the half-time margin only favoured Skye 1.9 (15) to 1.5 (11) over Springvale.
The Demons and Bombers found the goals in the second half with Skye opened its account with four majors to two in the third term before holding off the dogged Districts, which kicked three goals to one in a nail-biting last quarter.
Rob Johnston (3 goals) led the Springvale charge and almost created the come-back victory while Lance Baptist, Clinton Brooks, Justin Doust and Aidan Jolly were best afield.
Springvale heads to Highett on Saturday with hopes of boosting its fifth-place spot on the ladder.
DIVISION 3
The Cobras got on the board with a 37-point shellacking of South Yarra in tough conditions at Edinburgh Reserve. The rain made for heavy going on field, but it did not stop the Cobras as Clint Sheedy (5 goals) returned to his scintillating best up forward, while Jake Chapman, Brad Hemphill and John Frenken fed him plenty of opportunities from the midfield in the 11.14 (80) to 6.7 (43) win.
Meanwhile Dandenong fell away after half time against Ashwood as waywardness cost the Redlegs in the 6.13 (49) to 9.9 (63) loss. Daniel Atkin (3 goals) and Jarrod Lapthorne (2) were the prime scorers for the Redlegs while Dale Jose, David Barrie and Kevin Atkin deserve just mention for their stellar performances.
At Roy Dore Reserve, Lyndale was pumped by Carrum Patterson Lakes 6.12 (48) to 18.12 (120).
