THE State Government is giving free fruit to students in prep and grades one and two each Friday.
The Free Fruit Friday program is launching in schools around Greater Dandenong with the latest bunch of recipients from Springvale and Noble Park.
Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding said Springvale South, Coomoora, Heatherhill, Noble Park, Southvale, Chandler and Wallarano Primary Schools would all receive free fruit on Fridays under the program, which is funded by the $11 million Go For Your Life scheme.
“Children need fresh fruit and vegetables every day to grow up healthy and strong,” he said. “This initiative is designed to work with parents to ensure kids get the nutrition they need.”
“The Brumby Government’s Go For Your Life initiative aims to encourage healthy lifestyles and help all Victorians avoid damaging health problems like obesity and diabetes.”
Mr Holding said the State Government encouraged schools to use the fruit funds at local green grocers to support local business.
