Ethnic ties cemented

THE City of Greater Dandenong made its close relationship with the city’s ethnic communities official last week.
Mayor Maria Sampey signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ethnic Communities Council of the South East (ECCOSE), which represents more than 50 ethnic communities in the city.
“The signing of the memorandum of understanding between ECCOSE and Council formalises the existing close working relationship between the two organisations,” Cr Sampey said.
Chair of ECCOSE Sam Afra said the City of Greater Dandenong was the most culturally and linguistically diverse municipality in Victoria.
“The existence of an organisation like ECCOSE, born out of genuine community consultation, ensures relevant services are being delivered for its diverse community,” Mr Afra said.
“With 54 per cent of residents in the city with backgrounds from countries other than Australia, ECCOSE plays an important role in providing a voice for those communities,” he said.
