AFTER being told earlier in the week by bowls experts that it would not win a game this season, Burden Park Bowling Club’s Premier side hit back at its critics with a hard-fought win over Yarraville/Footscray 96-80.
The win was led by the rink of Adam Keil (skip), Ray Gaunt, Doug Hall and David Micklejohn, who won by a massive 28 shots, 37-9.
The second side’s game was washed out.
The third side was up against the strong Clayton line-up and was narrowly defeated 98-94.
Losses to the fourth and fifth sides by margins of seven and six shots respectively while disappointing were not disgraceful.
The best-performed side in the club so far is the sixth side, with two wins from two games, including a win over Vermont South 98-86.
The seventh side also has two wins, however its second victory on Saturday was from a walkover when Burwood was unable to field a side.
Burden Park Bowling Club’s top Victorian Ladies’ Bowling Association (VLBA) Pennant side continued its good form from the first game with a solid win over Cranbourne 105-81.
Jan Bourke and Barb Williamson led the way with 12-shot wins.
The second side produced the goods this week and notched up its first win of the season against Hampton Park 111-88.
Leela Gurusinha stepping in at the last minute to skip, and her rink starred with a resounding 38-14 win.
The third side also recorded its first win, defeating local rival Dandenong RSL 63-29.
On Saturday the Burden Park men played in the Royal Victorian Bowls Association (RVBA) Pennant competition amid earlier criticism from the elite bowling circle.
