Upgrade a barrier to pedestrians

A RECENT upgrade of Cheltenham Road in Keysborough has the residents of a nearby retirement village up in arms.
The residents of Parkglen Retirement Village this week submitted a petition to City of Greater Dandenong Council calling for it to allow them access to cross the road from one side to another.
The upgrade’s newly installed traffic barriers don’t only keep traffic from leaving the road – it appears they are keeping Parkglen’s residents from crossing Cheltenham Road.
Keysborough South Ward councillor Peter Brown, who presented the petition on the residents’ behalf, urged the council to consider modifying Cheltenham Road near Corrigan Road to remove the ‘hazards’ that are making life difficult for Parkglen residents, and other Keysborough residents living nearby.
Cr Brown also said Cheltenham Road’s upgrade, completed late last year, had turned it into more of a highway than a suburban road, making it fraught with dangers for pedestrians wanting to cross.
