Mobs on the rampage

TWO mob attacks in Greater Dandenong last week landed good Samaritans in hospital.
About 60 African men brandishing fence palings attacked a Noble Park man who stepped in to stop their rampage along Corrigan Road.
The 23-year-old was driving north along the road in Noble Park about 10.45pm on 29 November when he saw the group chasing two men of Islander appearance.
He pulled over at Walsh Street and intervened but the group turned on him, smashing a bottle below his right eye and vandalising his car.
The victim drove home and his partner took him to the hospital where he received stitches to his face.
Earlier that day, up to 12 men of Indian appearance attacked a Dandenong North man who tried to stop their argument with two Caucasian men on Lonsdale Street, Dandenong, just after midnight.
They stomped on his head, causing bruising and lacerations to his face and legs, before fleeing.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Tony Lavars said deciding whether to intervene in an assault was a personal decision.
“I would always call triple-zero. You have to think of your own safety as well,” he said.
He appealed for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
