STUDENTS from the Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre in Cranbourne toured the Bunurong Memorial Park on Tuesday to explore possible job opportunities.
The visit also gave the students a chance to see the cemetery in a relaxed atmosphere, rather than at a funeral of a friend or relative.
Client services manager at Bunurong Memorial Park, Michelle Sabau, said the “behindthescenes tours” were regular events at the cemetery.
“We provide this service on a regular basis to the general public, nursing home staff, volunteers, or students completing their certificates in grief counselling,” she said.
“The idea behind the students’ tour was to allow them to visit the cemetery without it being for a friend’s or relative’s funeral, to learn about the facilities and services we offer and to show them it is acceptable to visit our park for quiet reflection.
“It also gave the kids a chance to discover the diverse career options that will be presented to them.”
Students aged between 15 and 19 took part and Merinda Park youth placement support worker Karen Soane said there were many possible job opportunities available at the park.
“We’re looking at a range of careers in local centres, and Bunurong Memorial Park has many opportunities whether it be as a garden apprentice, administration or elsewhere,” she said.
