Returns for insurance

AS 2007/08 comes to an end and people start tackling their tax return, WorkSafe Victoria is asking employers to complete their annual declaration of rateable remuneration.
This certifies an employer’s remuneration so their WorkSafe injury insurance premiums can be finalised and then calculated for the following year.
WorkSafe is holding a number of information sessions in Melbourne and Wangaratta over three days from 14 July to 18 July 2008.
WorkSafe’s director of premium Brian Cook said having a WorkSafe injury insurance policy and paying premium was a necessary part of running a business for nearly all employers in Victoria. Declaring remuneration is a necessary step employers must undertake in this process.
“Estimating rateable remuneration can be simple if the employer’s business is small and they don’t have any remuneration other than the wages and superannuation they pay their employees,” Mr Cook said.
“However, if you engage contractors, pay fringe benefits, hire trainees or apprentices or have workers working interstate, then determining your rateable remuneration might be more complex.”
In this case, Mr Cook encouraged employers to register for one of WorkSafe’s upcoming seminars.
“We’re trying to make the process as painless for employers as possible,” Mr Cook said.
“In addition to helping them via the information sessions, employers can declare their remuneration using WorkSafe’s online system.”
“For the first time, employers can also pay their premiums by credit card by calling 1800 679 001 if the amount payable is under $10,000,” Mr Cook said.
