A LOCAL artist’s photographic impression of the world is lighting up the walls of Springvale Library.
The photographic exhibition will feature the work of 33-year-old Springvale South resident Matthew Archdall as part of Springvale Library’s “Art on Glass” art program.
The exhibition, titled “Quads”, includes photos from Mr Archdall’s overseas holiday in 2004.
“I spent three-and-a-half months travelling around Hong Kong and eastern Europe and took heaps of photos,” Mr Archdall said.
“I took a course after I finished school, and photography has always been part of me.”
He said the trip opened his eyes to new places and new experiences.
“Travelling is a very humbling experience,” he said. “You realise a lot about yourself and life in general – especially if you travel solo like I did.”
Mr Archdall said that he hoped his art would show that no matter where people were, they were affected in similar ways.
“I tried to show the bigger picture,” he said. “One moment affects all.”
He said that the exhibition was not what most would expect from travel photos.
“By deconstructing the subjects to their base elements, colour, line and texture, the photographs aren’t defined by where they were taken,” he said.
“It’s all about the human condition and how we see things.”
The exhibition features 13 images and covers the entire length of the windows facing Springvale Road.
The “Quads” exhibition will be on display until the end of December at the Springvale Library, 411 Springvale Road.
Library opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
