Anger as booze bus catches 23

POLICE have described a booze bus operation at the Springvale Junction last Friday as another “disappointing success”.
The bus, set up between 10:30pm and 2:45am on Friday night at the intersection of Princes Highway, Springvale Road, Police Road and Centre Road, caught 23 people driving with their blood-alcohol content over the limit.
While police are yet to collate the number of people tested, they know that people are continuing to drive into the festive period impaired by alcohol.
On their way home from the operation, police picked up a 24-year-old man outside the Springvale Botanical Cemetery. He blew 0.106, his second drink driving offence.
They were glad to take his licence from him immediately and get him off the road rather than possibly seeing him and his female passenger end up in the nearby cemetery.
The highest reading recorded during the operation was a man who blew 0.194.
Deputy Commissioner Simon Overland visited the booze bus during the night, one of many senior police who will attend booze bus operations in coming weeks as part of Operation RAID – Remove All Impaired Drivers.
