Budding artists got a taste for showcasing their talent at the Silverton Primary School’s Art Show.
The Noble Park North school turned its gym into an art gallery late last month and displayed paintings, cakes, woodwork and more.
Teacher Di Phillipson said the experience inspired the kids to think of themselves as artists.
“The quality and the way the students are applying themselves has just been amazing,” she said.
The show, which received support from RACV, also featured creative writing, jewellery, photography and repurposed items including books, CDs and records.
Artist Gavin Byrt spent a day in the school working with students, and artists from Dandenong’s Connection Gallery worked with students over six weeks on a variety of activities.
“We’re building up connections to have not just in the school, but make it more community-based,” Ms Phillipson said.
“It’s made us very enthused to continue.”
She hopes the exhibition will become a biennial event.
