It was a successful long weekend on Greater Dandenong’s roads, says the area’s top traffic cop.
Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Scott Roberts said Operation Furlong ran from Friday 28 October to Tuesday 1 November to target Melbourne Cup Carnival revellers on the roads.
“We did a lot of breath testing. We were right up there in terms of the amount of tests done for a local government area state-wide,” he said.
“The results were pleasing.
“Detections were way down.”
Sen Sgt Roberts said his team also ran automatic number plate recognition operations.
“The key to any successful operation is the amount to which lives are saved or not lost and the trauma’s reduced,” he said.
“To that end, it was a successful operation.
“There were no fatalities.
“There were a couple of collisions in which people were injured, but relative to the volumes of traffic I would consider it a successful long weekend.”
