REVITALISING central Dandenong remains a priority for Greater Dandenong Council with $13.5 million included in the draft budget for the completion of the Dandenong Market redevelopment.
The final component of the market will involve the council borrowing $11.5 million to complete the works.
CEO John Bennie said the market returned an annual revenue stream to the council and with the refurbishment, additional returns on the market will fund the repayment of the loan.
The project, when fully complete, will boast a new large fresh food section, increased space for fruit and vegetables, a new general merchandise hall, offices, loading facilities and cool stores.
The $26.5 million project is due to be completed by April 2010.
