Heatherton slides- Alex Phillip’s Heatherton United went down 3-1 to Morwell Pegasus on Saturd

By Stuart Teather
HEATHERTON United’s bid to stay in touch with the top teams in State League Two South East took a hit on Saturday when the side went down to Morwell Pegasus 3-1 at Ronald Reserve.
The two sides fought out an even first half with no score on either side of the park, but Morwell broke the game open after the break, courtesy of a Frank Albanese double.
Clayton Bell slotted another for the home side while Nicholas D’Angelo was the only scorer for United.
The loss drops Heatherton down to fifth in a congested pack at the top of the ladder, but still only a point behind second-placed Morwell.
Doncaster leads the division by seven points and, with eight games remaining this season, is firming its grip on the promotion spot as each round goes by.
In other results, Dandenong City had a 1-1 tie with Diamond Valley United, while South Springvale triumphed 3-1 against Knox City, just the side’s second win of the season.
The Southern Stars edged closer to relegation from State League One with a 2-0 loss to Bulleen at Ross Reserve.
The Stars are two games into the relegation zone and, with just one win for the season, appear destined for State League Two next season.
Noble Park United moved into third place on the State League Three South East ladder with a 1-0 win against Nunawading City on Saturday.
Matthew Durand converted for United in the first half, helping the club to move on to equal points with second-placed Southern Suburbs.
United is far from safe at the top of the ladder, however, with Springvale City nipping at its heels following a 1-1 draw with Peninsula.
It will be a local derby this Saturday when the two teams clash at City’s Ross Reserve, while Heatherton hosts the State League Two South East ladder leading Doncaster Rovers, Dandenong City takes on the in-form Casey Comets, South Springvale plays Malvern City, and in State League One Southern Stars face Bentleigh and the White Eagles head away to Bulleen.
