A Greater Dandenong councillor will vie for a seat in the Victorian Parliament at next year’s State Election.
Cr Heang Tak announced that the Labor Party had formally endorsed him as its candidate for Clarinda at the Monday 27 November council meeting.
“I intend to stay in council as long as the nomination is for, at which case I will advise my councillor colleagues and council,” he said.
The Cambodian-born lawyer has called Greater Dandenong home for more than 19 years, was elected to council in 2012 and served as mayor in 2015-’16.
Incumbent Clarinda MP Hong Lim announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking re-election.
He was the first person of Chinese and Cambodian heritage elected to the Victorian Parliament, in 1996.
The Clarinda electorate covers a small area of Springvale.
