IT WAS an evening of glamour and excellence at Hallam Senior Secondary College last week when students gathered for the 2009 South East Outstanding Student Career Achievement Awards.
SELLEN LCP coordinator Dani West said the awards started in 2007 to recognise youth on a professional level.
“It’s a great event and to quote our CEO Paul Di Masi, it’s not about the award, it’s about the recognition of the recipient’s journey to get to where they are now,” she said.
Six students were nominated and three businesses were inducted into the Hall of Fame during the awards.
“This was by far the best year we have had of the awards,” Ms West said.
“We had high quality applications and the awards were very student focused.”
Narre Warren P-12 College students Natalie Briggs and Craig Earl and Maranatha Christian College student Nicholas Marie were nominated for the ASBA Student of the Year Award.
Craig won the award.
In the VCAL Student of the Year category, Narre Warren P-12 College students Michelle Byrne and Jessica Connor were nominated, as was Marantha College student Kong Tut who won the award.
The VET Student of the Year award went to Ben Fleming from Kambya College, who was nominated with Jessie Bredin from Narre Warren P-12 College and Kellie-Ann Cameron from Hallam Senior Secondary College.
Berwick High School dancers provided entertainment with their performance of The Masked Circus.
