Guard caught offguard

By Lia Bichel
A SCHOOL crossing guard had his leg broken after he was hit by a car in Noble Park.
The man, employed by the City of Greater Dandenong, was hit by a car on the corner of Corrigan Road and Noble Street on 16 October.
Senior Constable Dave Huybens said the man, in his 60s, was taken to Dandenong Valley Private Hospital. Dandenong’s regulatory services manager Peter Shelton said the woman driver involved had talked to the council and the situation was being handled.
“The driver stopped the car when she hit him, and she has made contact with us several times,” Mr Shelton said. He said the crossing guard was expected to make full recovery.
“He’s in good spirits and is eager to get back to work,” Mr Shelton said. “He does a very important job, and we hope people take care when driving through school areas, especially between 8am and 9am and between 3pm and 4pm.”
