DANDENONG police and a local Aboriginal men’s group battled it out in a friendly game of 10 pin bowling recently in an attempt to help knock down barriers.
The competition aimed to bring together operational police and the local group, Tjaegan’s Warriors, to further break down barriers and strengthen relationships in a social and friendly atmosphere.
Victoria Police’s Aboriginal community liaison officer Belinda Jose organised the event. She said it created positive associations and interactions between the two groups which generated and established trust and respect.
“We want to break down the stereotypes and improve our relationships so we can work towards a common goal,” Ms Jose said.
Six police members of varying ranks and 10 Koori men from the local group participated.
The police won with a score of 742 to the Tjaegan’s Warriors score of 542.
