PRELIMINARY works have started on the $290 million Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative which will see the upgrade of George Street and part of Walker Street.
The works will take six months to complete and will provide easier access for cars using the George Street Bridge to get into the centre of Dandenong.
Bicycle paths, priority bus lanes, pedestrian walkways and extra traffic lights are set to make different modes of transport more accessible.
VicUrban’s Revitalising Central Dandenong Development Director, Michael King said VicUrban would advise of a start date for the roadworks in the coming weeks.
“Building on the transformation of Lonsdale Street, these works will create a new western entry into Dandenong, providing a welcoming environment where more people come to live, work, learn and visit,” he said.
“These works signal the continuation of on-the-ground improvements under the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative and will help deliver more people into the heart of Dandenong.”
