Strength in cultural diversity

The annual Cultural Diversity Week festival once again brought the Dandenong West community together on 22 March.

Hosted by the local primary school, more than 1000 flocked for free family-friendly activities, performances and affordable treats.

Among the entertainers were Mark Tambo, who played didgeridoo and spoke powerfully on reconciliation, and the Bollydazzlers dance group.

About 25 service providers including the Dandenong-based Bunurong Health Services with an anti-smoking message, AMES, Red Cross, SES, Melbourne Victory and YMCA attended.

The school was brightly festooned by ‘Flags of Peace’ created by Dandenong West Primary students.

The school’s community hub leader Vikki Noisette said it was a chance to celebrate the community’s strength.

“It was an opportunity to work together to create an event that celebrates who we are.”
