THE sports co-ordinator from Killester College has thrown her support behind said the swimming pool campaign, saying an indoor pool and recreational area would have huge benefits for young people in the area.
Sports co-ordinator Emma Spreckley said aquatics was included in the schools sports program, but said many children could improve their swimming skills by participating in a year round swimming lessons outside of school.
“I think if there was an indoor pool offered all year round, and locally, many kids would get swimming lessons,” she said.
She said sports facilities such as those included in stage three plans for the Noble Park pool would also be beneficial.
“Half the time the sports offered in class is the only physical activity students get. (The outdoor recreation area) would be something fun for them to do in a safe location after school hours,” she said. “I think it would absolutely benefit them, health- wise and socially. But getting the kids involved is our biggest challenge.”
