NOBLE Park learner drivers and their supervisors are being offered a free driving lesson with an accredited instructor.
The ‘keys2drive’ program, a government-funded learner driver safety program, aims to teach safer driving rather than just how to pass the driving test.
Noble Park RACV Drive School instructor Michael Waters said by offering quality tuition to learner drivers and their supervisors, young drivers would be able to drive safely beyond the test.
“The great thing about the ‘keys2drive’ program is that parents and supervisors also reap the benefits, by being present during the lesson, they learn the best ways to teach their learner driver the right skills,” Mr Waters said.
“The key message is safety, not just passing a test.”
Almost half of Australian supervisor drivers admit to being nervous before starting driving lessons with their learner driver and 64 per cent said they had experienced conflict during a driving lesson.
Mr Waters said forming a partnership between the learner and the supervisor was important to learn safe driving habits.
“Unfortunately we see all too often in Victoria unfortunate crashes involving young drivers, which is why it is so important to ensure learners develop safe driving skills right from the start,” he said.
“I would recommend that any parent who is teaching their child to drive should definitely book a ‘keys2drive’ lesson.”
