Pray for victory

THEY say history never repeats, but South Springvale Aris will be praying to the Greek gods that it does on Wednesday.
The recently promoted division two side will venture to George Andrews Stadium on Wednesday in the fourth round of the Mirabella Cup to take on the league leaders of the Premier League, Dandenong Thunder.
The David-versus-Goliath battle appears to be a foregone conclusion but South Springvale coach Steve Voursoukis says if history from 1994 plays a part, then his Aris side is in with a shot.
Voursoukis, who played for South Springvale in 1994, said his side shocked soccer enthusiasts everywhere when it upset Dandenong Thunder to win the final of the Dorotic Cup.
At the time, the division four side was the lowest ranked team to qualify for the tournament and were never given much of a chance of toppling Dandenong, who were dominating in division one.
But after beating Kingston in the semi-final, South Springvale went on to record a famous 1-0 victory over Dandenong in the final.
In other Mirabella match-ups this week, Dandenong City will play division one side Langwarrin on Tuesday at Lawton Park, the Springvale White Eagles will take on Falcons 2000 on Wednesday and the Southern Stars will also play host to Kingston City on Wednesday.
