A NOBLE Park hospitality company has voluntarily paid $32,600 in back-pay to some of its employees.
The money was paid to 36 of its wait staff and kitchen hands after a Fair Work Ombudsman investigation found the staff had been underpaid.
The workers, most under 20 years old, were underpaid their minimum hourly rate and were not paid overtime or weekend penalty rates.
A complaint sparked the investigation and the hospitality venue promptly paid the entitlement when contacted by Fair Work inspectors.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell said mistakes happen but employers should be aware of minimum rates of pay.
“The business has now put processes in place to ensure this mistake will not be repeated,” Mr Campbell said.
“We acknowledge that accidental breaches of workplace laws do occur, so our preference always is to work with employers to educate them and help them voluntarily rectify any non-compliance issues we identify.”
