AN ACT of environmental vandalism has disgusted Greater Dandenong’s Mayor Roz Blades.
A street tree on the corner of Silvan Court and Cardinia Close in Dandenong North was poisoned last week.
It follows two similar incidents in Racecourse Road, Springvale, late last year.
Cr Blades said the destruction was disgusting.
“Acts of vandalism such as this not only destroy beautiful trees but damage community pride,” she said.
“Our street trees give us a great deal of pleasure and improve out environment. The council put a lot of effort and thought into planting new trees and maintaining existing plantings.”
Last financial year Greater Dandenong Council invested $2 million on street trees and maintenance.
Cr Blades said residents should take a stand against vandals and report acts of vandalism to the council or police.
