The new year marks a milestone in the students’ education – their first year of secondary school.

GRADE six students at Springvale’s Heatherhill Primary School rounded off 2005, and their primary schooling, with prestigious awards.
Student Noch So collected the 2005 Community Spirit and Leadership Award, announced at the school’s presentation night last month, which was presented by Hotham MP and former ALP leader Simon Crean.
Fellow grade six students Jessica Sow and Kliment Kovaceski received Citizenship Awards.
The winners were chosen for their leadership and their attitudes towards the wider community.
Principal Jan Banks said the graduation ceremony was a fitting example of how far Heatherhill Primary School’s grade six students had come.
“It was a terrific night because each student made a short speech, and it was wonderful to see how confident they were,” she said.
“It reflected their time at the primary school.”
Ms Banks said a majority of students would this year attend Heatherhill Secondary College, with some going to other secondary schools.
