LOCAL police have teamed with Drum Theatre staff to reduce theft-from-car dramas as a slew of new acts are announced for Dandenong’s newest arts facility.
Aptly named Don’t Let Your Theatre Trip End in Drama, the new initiative launched this week involves a special flyer formulated by Dandenong Police and Drum staff being given to patrons with their tickets.
The flyer will target ‘opportunistic thefts’ by appealing to theatre-goers to keep their valuables out of sight and their vehicles locked.
City of Greater Dandenong cultural facilities director Paul Streefkerk said the initiative was aimed at improving the holistic Drum Theatre experience.
“Hopefully this leaflet will provide useful tips to ensure all dramas are left on stage at the Drum,” he said.
Dandenong police Traffic Management Unit Senior Sergeant Alan Dew said theatre-goers needed to use commonsense to prevent thefts from cars.
“By parking in well lit areas, removing valuables from sight, and ensuring the vehicle is left secured, people can significantly reduce their chances of becoming victims of crime,” he said.
Meanwhile, Melbourne comedian Akmal will perform at the Drum Theatre in Dandenong this month as part of a statewide tour.
The man who has been described as making audiences ‘cry with laughter’ will take centre stage at The Drum on Friday, 23 June at 8pm.
Opera Australia is also tipped to set the Drum alight with its rendition of Carmen on 22 July at 8pm.
Kids have not been forgotten, with long-time favourite Humphrey B Bear hitting the Drum Theatre on 27 July at 10.30am.
