INTERNATIONALLY acc-laimed artist Gemma Lynch-Memory will officially open the Walker Street gallery’s She Who Explores exhibition.
Gallery coordinator Cathy van Ee said Gemma Lynch-Memory’s paintings were widely celebrated for their unique engagement with the Australian landscape.
“It is fitting to have such an aspiring artist as Gemma Lynch-Memory to open an exhibition that celebrates International Women’s Day,” Ms van Ee said.
“In April 2007, Gemma became the first woman to retrace the journey of Australia’s first female outback explorer, Emily Caroline Creaghe.
“The work Gemma produced from this journey forms part of the national touring exhibition that celebrates the achievement of Australia’s first female outback explorer and the landscape she explored.”
Between 1996 to 2006, Gemma rocketed to national artistic recognition and has been recognised by the International Women Explorers foundation based in New York.
The ‘She’ exhibition originated eight years ago to celebrate International Women’s Day and this year the Walker St Gallery will host a stunning show of the 38 finalists for one month.
The exhibition will run until 26 March.
The official opening will take place on 6 March at 6.30pm.
Viewing times are 11am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 11am to 3pm on Saturdays.
Exhibition gives everyone the opportunity to explore
