A DANDENONG Panthers’ batting collapse allowed Prahran to wrestle a nine-run victory from the jaws of defeat in their Premier Cricket one-day match at Shepley Oval on Saturday.
Chasing 235 for victory, Matthew Chasemore (37), Kumar Sarna (22) and Warren Ayres (57) had Dandenong on the path to victory, but that road soon become rocky.
At 3/182, the Panthers were all but guaranteed another four points, but Ayres lost his wicket and the momentum swung without warning.
The next four Dandenong wickets fell for just 27 runs as Prahran bowler Jack Jarvis ripped through the Panthers’ lower order.
Jarvis completed his 10-over spell with figures of 4/34.
Needing 12 runs from the final over, Dandenong lost another wicket from the first ball and could only manage three more runs before the innings was over.
Earlier in the day, Paul Boraston was the pick of the Dandenong bowlers, taking 2/28 from 10 overs.
Darren Pattinson, despite having an average day with the ball, snared his 150th first XI wicket.
On Saturday the Panthers begin their first two-day game of the season against Geelong at Shepley Oval.
