GREATER Dandenong council wants residents to learn more about the significance of the Australian honours system.
The city has begun hosting the It’s An Honour travelling exhibition, funded by the Federal Government.
Visitors can learn about the 53 awards in the Australian honours system, the nomination process, and view a display of medals in the Order of Australia and Australian Bravery Decorations.
The exhibition provides access to the www.itsanhonour.gov.au website, which is packed with features including A-Z fact sheets on all awards, honoured Australians profiles, historic honours and symbols, timelines and a search facility to provide users with easy access to records of Australian honours award recipients.
Australian honours recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Australians from all walks of life in every field of endeavour.
Anyone can nominate an Australian citizen for an award in the Order of Australia or Australian Bravery Decorations.
Nomination forms are available from the travelling exhibition or can be obtained by calling 1800 552 275.
The It’s An Honour travelling exhibition is on display at the Drum Theatre, 226 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong, from 19 March to 13 April.
