DORMA Australasia’s outstanding commitment to its customers has netted this year’s Service Excellence award.
And what a year to win it. The Dorma company celebrates its centenary after first being founded in Germany in 1908.
Australian operations, based in Hallam, have been in Australia since 1982 when Dorma entered the market selling door closers.
Business has rapidly expanded since then and the company has four separate divisions.
There is Dorma Automatics, which deals with everything from sliding, swinging, folding and low energy doors.
A major project for the division was the recent construction of Southern Cross railway station in Spencer Street.
Dorma Door Controls, another division, specialises in door closers, floor springs, panic exit hardware, locks, levers and other safety products, always pushing the boundaries of innovation.
Dorma Glass, as the division’s name suggests, is focused on glass fitted into doors.
And Dorma Moveable Walls, one of the company’s newest divisions, focuses on developing movable walls with the aim of perfecting space management.
Dorma has, with the help of South East Networks, adopted the Kanban and Lean manufacturing techniques.
These techniques are refinements of the mass production technique and save on waste, human effort and manufacturing space while making the manufacturing process more efficient.
But aside from helping itself, Dorma excels in helping its customers with its mobile automatic door service team.
Dorma has one of the largest service fleets in the industry within Australia and is proud of this fact.
Dorma regional manager for Australasia, Michael Smith, praised the hard work of his staff for the company’s success.
“As a united team, our staff are a tribute to DORMA’s impeccable reputation – vibrant and enthusiastic – striving for success in every aspect of the business,” he said.
“It is no wonder that collectively we have been nominated for excellence in Innovation, Export, Service and most importantly Employment.”
Dorma Australasia was also nominated for Employment, Export and Innovation.
A century of fine service
