Cafe owner spills the beans on latest burglary

DANDENONG cafe owner Eddie Nasser has given a thief a taste of the thin brew line.
Star reported this month that Mr Nasser’s central Dandenong cafe, Fast Eddy’s, had been burgled four times in two weeks, prompting the cafe owner to launch his own night-time patrol.
Mr Nasser vowed he would “camp out and catch the bastards” responsible for harming his business during a growth period.
The patrolling paid off at 8pm on Saturday when he noticed his shop had again been broken into, and the alarm at a nearby business was ringing.
“I drove past and saw (a man) in the (other business’) building,” Mr Nasser said.
Several bystanders ran to Mr Nasser, still in his car, and he told them someone was still in the premises. The bystanders phoned police, who arrived promptly and arrested a man.
Mr Nasser’s shop was again damaged, but the cafe owner was left puzzled by the items stolen this time around.
“He took a blender and strawberry milkshake topping,” Mr Nasser said.
But there is no rest for Mr Nasser, who is now determined to stay in Dandenong, rather than move.
“I have been driving past the shop every night and am sort of paranoid now. Even after (the arrest), the night after I was in bed at 11.30pm because I just had to get out and check that nothing had happened to the place.”
Police have charged 32-year-old Dandenong man Steven Galbraith with seven counts of burglary. He is scheduled to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 22 June.
