Matthew’s career is super charged

MATTHEW Szczesny is on the fast track to becoming the future of mechanics for V8 Supercars.
The Chisholm Institute of TAFE apprentice recently landed a job with local Dandenong business PWR Performance Products.
Matthew, 21, is a fourth year apprentice completing a Certificate III in Automotive (Light Vehicle) at the TAFE institute’s Dandenong campus.
His passion for high-performance mechanics has already led him down the path of success at an early age.
“Basically we are the main supplier of superchargers for late model V8s,” he said.
“On the job I’m also learning computer tuning along with how to customise high performing radiators for V8 Supercars.
“As soon as I moved out of working at a car dealership, my experience changed.
“This environment is all about dealing directly with the client; they trust you with their money to deliver – we’re essentially providing high-end services for a high-end market.”
The owner of a 2000 V8 Commodore himself, Matthew’s interest in his car first led to his apprenticeship and now to the idea of further study as he searches for more creative outlets in the area of mechanical engineering.
Matthew, who lives in Mount Waverley, said his interest in this area stemmed largely from his studies at Chisholm Institute and from working closely with the industry-trained teaching staff.
“It has been great at Chisholm, the teachers are very enthusiastic and they have a lot of experience even in the racing areas and I can talk to them about what I’m doing while on the job.
“I’ve been with PWR for three months now and after three years of completing general mechanical work it has been a real opportunity for me to look at the fabrication side of things – that is, making things for our clients, not just replacing parts,” Matthew said.
“I like the idea of engineering and designing better ways of getting performances out of all vehicles. “I’d like to go on and study this area at university one day.”
