GREATER Dandenong residents will soon use only one card to borrow books from up to eight regional libraries following a $446,000 network overhaul approved by the council last week.
Residents will be able to search for and borrow books using one library card across a consortium of eight regional library corporations including Greater Dandenong, Casey-Cardinia and Eastern Regional groups.
A new software system will be installed over the coming financial year to begin the rollout of what the consortium calls its Integrated Library Management System.
According to a Greater Dandenong council report the Municipal Association of Victoria aided the consortium to find a suitable tender.
Greater Dandenong council last week granted the contract to SirsiDynix, comprising a one-off installation fee of $85,300, and an annual licence fee of $72,938, bringing the total to $446,140 over five years.
