The badly decomposed body of 47-year-old Branko Juran was discovered under the Cheltenham Road Eastlink overpass at 7.45am on 21 February this year.
Homicide Squad detectives believe they have now established the location where the stabbing murder took place, possibly in the afternoon of 17 February 2008
On Thursday 8 May police scoured Mile Creek for clues to solving the murder.
Members of the Victoria Police Search and Rescue Squad this morning scoured the creek looking for jewellery, a mobile phone, a slipper and possible weapon but failed to recover any items of interest.
Homicide Squad detectives are continuing their investigation and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen three men in a dark grey 1992 Holden Commodore during the day of 17 February 2008.
They are also keen to speak to a cyclist who is believed to have been riding along the bike path on Mile Creek in the afternoon of 17 February.
