Picket delays mail

By Shaun Inguanzo
A UNION picket line outside the Dandenong-based nerve centre of Australia Post delayed up to 4 million post items, the company says.
Dandenong Letters Centre staff formed a picket line on Thursday 12 June as part of a wages and conditions dispute but Australia Post said it was given no indication of the action beforehand.
Spokeswoman Nadine Lydford said the group had labelled itself Union Solidarity.
“As a result, both our staff and the mail had unfortunately been impeded from entering the building during what is our peak processing period and this will result in some unavoidable delays,” Ms Lydford said.
“We are very sorry to our customers for any inconvenience experienced as result of this wholly irresponsible and unnecessary action by a group that we have no relationship with.”
