City gets ready for battle royale

GREATER Dandenong will host the annual South East Battle Royale music event this weekend.
The event promotes the four elements of hip hop, including MC-ing, break dancing, aerosol art and turntable work.
Youth services acting coordinator Peter Leech said the event, organised through the Street Science Institute, will include everything from MC-ing to beatboxing, as well as an aerosol art exhibition.
He said the event was a great way to showcase the vast array of talent the Street Science Institute had nurtured over the past six years.
“Not only will we have some of our own home-grown talent performing but we have also attracted a host of other performers including Sherlock, RKS, One-Six, Nomadic Funk and DJred,” Mr Leech said.
“It is a great opportunity for local residents to recognise the contribution the Street Science Institute has made to the local community.”
Mr Leech said dance, MC-ing and beatboxing competitions would be held on the night, with $1500 in prizes up for grabs.
The South East Battle Royale will be held at The Castle on Saturday 28 June from 4.30pm to 10.30pm.
It is an all ages, fully supervised event that is smoke, alcohol and drug-free.
Tickets are $7 presale or $10 at the door.
For more information about the event, registering for competitions or for tickets, phone Dandenong Youth Services on 9793 2155 or visit www.myspace.com/streetscience1.
