THE STUDENTS at Noble Park’s Harrisfield Primary School pulled out the smooth moves for the camera last week.
That’s because the school in conjunction with Greater Dandenong council held a Smoothie Day last Friday to promote good nutrition in students’ diets.
City of Greater Dandenong’s environmental health business leader Geoff Fraser said Smoothie Day was a simple way to teach students about healthy eating.
“We sponsor the schools with a small grant of $500 to assist with the day,” he said.
“The children are given a presentation on the goodness of fruit and healthy diets and then get to have a smoothie.
“This is the third smoothie day we’ve done over the past year and in the case of Dandenong High School, the students and teachers have made the program ongoing.”
The grant enables the school to purchase milk, fruit and drink containers.
Mr Fraser said council would now submit more funding applications to the Department of Human Services in an effort to ensure the Smoothie Day program continues.
