A GREATER Dandenong councillor was left speechless when awarded Rotary’s equivalent of the Brownlow Medal for outstanding community service.
Keysborough Ward councillor Roz Blades said she was surprised to have received the Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of Noble Park, after the club’s president managed to keep the presentation under wraps.
“It was a complete surprise. It was the first time anyone had ever seen me speechless,” Cr Blades said.
Rotary Club of Noble Park president Keith Maxwell masterminded the secret, inviting Cr Blades to a meeting to hear Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding present a speech on Thursday, 16 March, but bearing the ulterior motive of presenting the award to Cr Blades. She received a certificate, medal and pin for the honour.
Mr Maxwell said the club not only supplied the award, but donated US$1000 to Rotary’s international aid efforts.
