AN inspired performance by new recruit Vic Currie led the Noble Park Bulls to a charging 144-point win over Croydon in their Eastern Football League (EFL) first division match at Noble Park Reserve on Saturday.
Currie booted five goals and starred in a best-on-ground performance.
Brent Williams proved a strong target at full-forward and kicked six goals for the Bulls.
Daniel Velardo was also lethal in the forward line, bagging six majors.
After cruising to victory against Mitcham last week, Croydon looked set to challenge the Bulls, but were simply blown away.
The new-look Noble Park team is younger, fitter and stronger than last year, and coach Shane Burgmann seems to have found the important balance between youth and experience.
The Bulls had booted 15 goals by half-time and Burgmann urged his players to keep running.
“We’ve got to keep running, the goals will come,” he said.
“Let’s stay tight in defence and run free into attack.”
The Bulls did exactly that, piling on another 14 goals in the second half and restricting the Blues to just two.
Currie has had no trouble adapting to the speed of the EFL after spending last year with Clayton in Division One of the Southern Football League.
He is exactly the type of player the Bulls need firing when they reach the finals at the end of the season.
But exactly how good are the Bulls?
This question will be decisively answered on Saturday when Noble Park plays Lilydale at the Lilydale Sports Oval.
The Magpies won their first two games by a combined total of 147 points and should give the Bulls their first competitive match.
With Ben Hoskin and Shane Bell still to make their return to the senior side, the Bulls are an impressive unit and a win against Lilydale would prove the side is a genuine premiership contender.
