NOBLE Park has bounced back from last week’s devastating loss to Vermont with a convincing 32-point victory over Blackburn in the Eastern Football League (EFL) Division One competition at Pat Wright Oval on Saturday night.
It was the EFL’s first match under lights played for premiership points, but it was a case of same old Bulls as they dispatched yet another opponent.
Noble Park played well from the opening siren, kicking five majors to hold sway by 10 points at quarter-time and could have led by more if not for errant goalkicking.
The goal woes worsened in the second term as the team booted six behinds as Blackburn slashed the margin to three points at the long break.
The Bulls made a mockery of their first-half goalkicking by nailing six straight majors in the third term as Blackburn caught the goalkicking illness, managing just two goals from seven attempts as Noble Park extended its lead to 22 points.
The Bulls went on with the job in the last quarter, kicking four goals to two to register their 15th victory of the season.
“We took a little while to get going,” Bulls playing coach Shane Burgmann said.
“I just told them to persist with what they were doing and it worked out in the end.”
Aaron Cole was a dominant force slamming through nine goals to give him 41 for the season. Gavin Vassallo was also among the goals with a season-best four.
“Blackburn has definitely improved,” Burgmann said. “It is a hard-running side.”
He was impressed with the lights as well.
“You don’t go from a light to a dark spot on the ground,” he said. “It was really good.”
