IT’S NOT often a celebration takes place at a cemetery but that was the case at Bunurong Memorial Park last weekend.
On Saturday the Dandenong South cemetery celebrated its 10th year in the community with fanfare, special guests and even cemetery tours.
Residents were invited to learn about a variety of cemetery topics from digging equipment through to garden maintenance.
Bunurong staff gave guided tours showing the cemetery’s chapel, crematoria and mausoleum.
A line-up of hearses showing the range of vehicles used across Melbourne topped off a funeral-themed celebration.
Bunurong spokeswoman Michelle Sabau said the open day allowed residents to learn about the cemetery process in a relaxed manner.
“The open day is a way to open up discussion with our diverse community in a relaxed and informal environment,” she said.
