NOBLE Park’s Adult Multicultural Educational Services (AMES) has arrived at its new home following a multi-million dollar injection of funds from the State Government.
The educational facility, formerly in Frank Street, is now located at Douglas Street on the same grounds as the Noble Park Chisholm TAFE and the English Language School.
The $1.8 million dollar campus is a state-of-the-art facility with digital projectors, computers and audio listening stations integrated heavily into students’ curriculums.
Noble Park AMES Education Unit manager Luke Treadwell said the new facility was not only much larger and more modern than the previous premises but would offer the chance for community service representatives to give weekly speeches on matters relating to welfare to refugees and migrants at AMES.
“An important part of the design of the building is that it can be used to accommodate community representatives in classes,” he said.
The facility is also large enough to allow multicultural groups to operate their own classes and programs, Mr Treadwell said.
AMES Noble Park was opened yesterday by Education Minister Lynne Kosky.
Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews, also in attendance, said the new facility was about providing opportunities to refugees and migrants.
“The new Adult Multicultural Education Services will give newly arrived migrants assistance through education and learning programs including courses on language, numeracy and literacy,” he said.
“This support is all about giving people opportunities and helping to build a stronger community in Noble Park.”
Mr Treadwell praised fellow colleague and AMES area team leader Sam Navarria for his work in establishing the new facility.
