AUSTRALIAN Opals basketballer Carly Wilson entertained the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce last week as the first three nominees of this year’s Premier Regional Business Awards were announced.
At a business breakfast, Dandenong South businesses Micro Plastics, SDI International and Lettieri Constructions were nominated for awards with other nominees expected to be announced progressively throughout the year.
Receiving the nomination for Micro Plastics was managing director Robert Wilson.
Mr Wilson described the company as a custom injection moulder to the plastics industry.
Among its products, Micro Plastics makes components associated with emergency vehicle lights, including rotating beacons, intersection lights, loud speakers and illuminated signs.
The company was nominated in categories of innovation, small business, and service excellence.
Lettieri Constructions project manager Tony Lettieri received the nomination for his company, which has been built from family foundations.
Initially a bricklaying and concreting service, the company grew from its 1970 incarnation into a large team of labourers.
Since then it has delved into concrete slab construction as commercial and industrial buildings moved away from bricks, and the family has now opened Letcon Precast.
Letcon Precast is a plant that supplies Lettieri Constructions and other builders with materials. Lettieri Constructions was nominated in categories of small business, innovation and service excellence.
The third nominee, SDI International, was represented by managing director Robert White, who shared with the audience his vision on the future of chemical cleaning products.
Mr White said the company was trialing nano-technology such as silver ions and was achieving remarkable results.
He said the business was committed to providing an outstanding cleaning and preservation product range in an environmentally friendly and non-toxic manner.
The business was nominated for categories of small business, service excellence and innovation. All nominees are entered automatically in the running for the overall Premier Regional Business Award.
Ms Wilson gave a closing speech about her Commonwealth Games experience and life as a professional basketballer, followed by a light-hearted competition to see who in the audience could squeeze into her lycra Opals uniform the quickest.
