GREATER Dandenong council is planning to inject $1.4 million into a new Springvale-based one-stop shop for child care and community services after the successful launch this month of a Noble Park facility.
The Paddy O’Donoghue Centre, Noble Park, was the first hub of its type to be built in Greater Dandenong in a bid by council to reduce operating costs by combining its community childcare services in the town.
As reported in Star in February, council has been planning a similar hub for Springvale.
The Springvale Community Centre as the project is tentatively known will be located on the corner of Lightwood Road and Southdowne Avenue.
Council has for the 2006/07 draft budget allocated $1.4 million to the project which is expected to cost $4 million in total.
It is listed as a major project alongside the Dandenong Market, Tatterson Park, George Street Bridge and State Volleyball constructions.
The Paddy O’Donoghue Centre experienced a strong sign of support at its opening on 13 May, with widow of the late Noble Park resident, Olive O’Donoghue, present along with 100 other people for the launch.
