A DELEGATION of Indian business students, managers and CEOs, was left gob-smacked by the City of Greater Dandenong’s intricate business network.
So says the South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance (SEMMA) executive director Paul Dowling, who along with several local business identities presented a local business and manufacturing-focused speech to the 37-strong delegation, believed to be eyeing joint business ventures between the city and their homeland.
Last week’s tour was the first time the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, from Kolkata, India, has sent one of it delegations to Australia, Mr Dowling said.
He said SEMMA’s alliance partnership with the Australian Indian Business Council made the tour in Greater Dandenong possible.
Before the delegation flew back to India last Friday, Mr Dowling said the delegation of Indian business managers and CEOs had thanked Greater Dandenong and praised the presentation as the best leg of its Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne tour.
He said the long-term benefits of a relationship with India would create a “dual benefit” for local manufacturers.
“In areas of specialty technology local companies will have the ability to export that, even export their knowledge.
“The other side of the coin gives local companies a chance to import products that complement theirs, and to build up a range, or else use lower-cost, non-critical components.”
The success of the delegation’s visit has given the council and SEMMA the confidence to accept further groups, with Greater Dandenong corporate services director Ross Hepburn saying many more would be welcomed.
“There is a great deal of potential for local businesses to export and we will continue to encourage delegates from around the globe in an attempt to promote Greater Dandenong’s business potential.”
