A CLEAN Up Australia Day event organised by the Islamic Association of Australia in Dandenong South aims to rid the area of more than just rubbish.
It is also designed to help remove some stereotypes about Muslim people and improve cultural relationships.
Amina Wahid from the Islamic Association of Australia said the event, organised mostly by women from the association, was a chance for people of all cultures to work together to improve the environment.
“It is important that people understand Muslims are Australians as well,” she said.
Mrs Wahid said everyone was invited to come down and participate in the clean up day.
The site is at Woodcock Reserve on the corner of Hammond Road and Heart Street in Dandenong South.
The event will be held on the national Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 5 March from 10am to noon, followed by a sausage sizzle.
People wanting to participate will need to bring gloves, sunscreen, a hat, sensible clothing and shoes.
For more information contact Marzia Niazi on 0404 584 157 or Amina Wahid on 9713 0313.
