PEOPLE are flocking from neighbouring cities to be a part of Noble Park RSL’s newest social activity club.
The Gum Club is held every Tuesday morning and is described by its organisers as a day activities club to help curb social isolation that can strike lonely residents.
RSL member and Gum Club organiser Alf Goldburg said the club, launched in May, offered activities ranging from card games to exercises along with the friendships each member formed.
“I’ll tell you what, people really look forward to it,” he said.
“One fellow comes all the way from Hampton Park just to be a part of it.”
Mr Goldburg said about 50 people attended the weekly club and were treated to guest speakers, bush bands and a two-course meal for just $5.
“Another woman comes all the way from Dingley,” he said.
“These people just want to get out of their homes and have something to do.”
A regular day for the Gum Club kicks off at 10.30am and ends at 2.30pm, Mr Goldburg said.
Anyone interested in joining the club can attend the Tuesday meetings at Noble Park RSL, Heatherton Road, Noble Park.
