STUDENTS at Carwatha College indulged in preCommonwealth Games festivities when Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews delivered an official Games flag this week.
Mr Andrews handed the flag to the college captains to mark just over 30 days until the Games kick off in Melbourne.
“The countdown to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games has started and with only 36 days to go, everyone in our area is getting ready to celebrate,” Mr Andrews said.
“Local schools are getting ready to welcome the Games and one of the best ways is to fly the games flag proudly at their school.
“The Queen’s Baton is on its way through Australia, and when it reaches our area I know that local students will be amongst the thousands cheering as it makes its way to the MCG with the Queen’s message.”
The baton is set to arrive in Greater Dandenong on 2 March before entering the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 15 March for the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.
“Local students, schools and residents are urged to contact my office if they would like any further information about the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games,” Mr Andrews said.
