EMERGENCY crews have praised the response of staff to a potential fire at a Noble Park aged care centre last week.
At 6.45pm on Wednesday, 19 April, a fire alarm was sounded at Noble Gardens Residential Aged Care after a battery for a lighting system overheated.
The alarm prompted staff to move up to 60 residents from their rooms.
Noble Gardens clinical services manager, Clare Dyer, said even those members who lived nearby but were not on duty arrived on the scene to assist.
“We have mandatory fire education twice a year for our staff,” she said.
“We have also got a state-of-the-art fire alert system.”
Ms Dyer praised her staff for their efforts and said the 60 residents were moved to a neighbouring residential area in the facility.
CFA photographer Keith Pakenham said the electrical malfunction could have evolved into a serious fire threat later in the evening had it not been for staff and the alarm system.
